The deer population for the whole group area is calculated on the basis of regular counts, and at the last count (2015), there were approximately 4,100 stags, 7,000 hinds and 2,400 calves. The average cull is around 1,000 stags, 1,600 hinds and 400 calves.
Since 2004, deer management in the group has been guided by a rolling five year Deer Management Plan.
The DMG meets at least twice a year, usually at the end of March and October.
